LPG in winter. What do you need to know?

In Poland, there are over 3 million cars equipped with LPG installations, which constitutes about 14% of all registered passenger cars. Thanks to the development of technologies, we can enjoy full reliability of those cars, but particularly  before winter, it is worth taking care of them additionally. What should you keep in mind then?

The effect of low temperature on cars with LPG installations

Whether we deal with gasoline, diesel fuel or LPG, in winter each car can cause a few surprises. One of them is starting the engine, which must be carried out in an appropriate manner then. In the case of gas installations, you must remember to avoid additional load on the electronics, which should not be switched on immediately. It involves e.g. air conditioning, wipers, seat heating, and in case of older cars – lights. All this just to make sure that car battery is charged, and thus smoothly switches the car to LPG supply.

Take care of the right level of gasoline

Despite running on gas, there should always be some gasoline in the tank of the car. It ensures lubrication and cooling of the fuel pump, and thus guarantees trouble-free starting. Its low level also activates condensation of the water vapour inside the tank, and the inflow of water can make starting the vehicle difficult and result in other irregularities during later driving. This is a problem mainly for older generation cars, because in new cars, starting on gasoline is obligatory.

Take care of the spark plugs

The driver of a car with LPG installation,  should also take care of the condition of the sparks plugs before winter. LPG affects them a bit more than gasoline. Although if we use good quality products from recognized producers, then we will not have to worry about their operation.

A well installed, regularly checked and skilfully used LPG system (in accordance with the above principles) will not cause the driver additional problems in winter. On the contrary. Even despite the worse weather conditions, it will still guarantee big savings on the use of the car, which drivers of cars supplied by other fuels will not be able to obtain.
